Hockey Matchup Report

After reaching the pinnacle of hockey last season, the Chicago Blackhawks are off to an uninspiring start to the season. They’re hoping a trip to the music city will change their luck. The Blackhawks are off to an 8-9-1 start to this season. They have lost four of their last five games and find themselves in unfamiliar territory for recent times, near the bottom of the Western Conference. After displaying a prolific offensive attack last season, Chicago finds themselves in the middle of the pack in most major offensive categories.

Edmonton (2-4-0) at Calgary (5-3-0)

Season matchups:
It is the 3rd of 6 matchups involving the clubs. Edmonton attained a 4-0 triumph at Rexall Place in the season opener, however Calgary responded to having a 5-3 win in Calgary 9 days after wards.

Anaheim (3-5-1) at Dallas (5-2-)

Season series:

It will be the initial of 6 games involving the Pacific Division opponents. Dallas gained 9 out of a potential twelve points in the season series this past year with 3 regulation victories, 1 by way of a shootout, an extra time loss along with a regulation defeat. In the last matchup involving the hockey teams on April 8, Modano emerged through his final game being a Star before the home town fans. Tying the game having 1:47 remaining in regular time before the game ended. He added an assist & scoring the determining score in extra time the shootout in a 3-2 triumphant victory.

The main story, Teemu Selanne‘s 4th goal of the season for Anaheim during a defeat Detroit on Saturday. This goal had been the 610th of his long successful career, this goal was very meaningful as it tyied him with Bobby Hull for fifteenth on the all-time NHL records. The National Hockey League is composed of 30 teams split into 6 divisions in two conferences. Teams are distributed in divisions based on geographical proximity. Each division has five teams. The NHL put the current division system in place in the 1998-1999 season after previously having two conferences with two divisions. In 2000-2001, the addition of two new teams forced a realignment of the divisions, forming the current league structure.

Teams play most of their games against teams in their division. The team that wins its division is assured one of the top three seeds in the conference for playoff positioning, regardless of their point total. For example, a team finishing in first place in its division with 97 points is seeded above a team that finished with 100 points but second in another division.
